VHS Digital Conversion using the ClearClick Video Converter
Setup before you start
Setup before you start
- This machine saves files on USB flash drives up to 128 GB maximum or SD cards only. New SanDisk USB 3.0, 128 GB or smaller is preferred. Approximately 27 minutes of video uses one GB of storage. The files will not save on a hard drive or directly onto a computer from this device.
- If you use a Mac computer, be sure to format your USB flash drive or SD card before you start converting your video.
- Plug in the converter using the power adapter plug and the enclosed USB cable. The converter should turn on automatically and a blue light will appear on the front of the converter. If the device does not turn on, press and hold the power button for two or three seconds.
- Go to the MENU, scroll down to DEFAULT STORAGE DEVICE and select your storage device, USB or SD. Press OK. Press MENU to save.
- Plug the USB flash drive or SD card into the converter.
- The converted files are saved in MP4 Video Format. The resolution is defaulted to 740X480. Optional Step: If desired, the converter can be set to record at 640X480. To change the Video Size to 640X480, push MENU, scroll down and press VIDEO SIZE, press OK, select 640X480 4:3, press OK, press MENU to save. This change will only affect future conversions, it does not change recordings that have already been made.
- Attach the enclosed cables to the OUT ports on the VCR. There are three cables, Video is yellow. Red is right audio and white is left audio. If the VCR does not have two audio ports, connect the white cable into the audio port on the VCR. Leave the red cable disconnected from the VCR.
- Plug the corresponding ends of the three cables into the correct colored ports on the rear of the converter.
- Plug in the VCR. Turn the power on. Rewind your tape to where you want to start. (You can watch where you are on the converter when the VCR is in play mode and running at regular speed.)
- Press play on the VCR. You should see your video playing on the screen of the converter. If you don’t, try another VCR. You will also hear the audio from the video. You can adjust the audio by using the up and down menu buttons. Adjusting the volume while recoding does not affect the audio being converted.
- To start recording, go to the place on the VHS tape where you want to start. Press PLAY on the VCR and Press REC on the converter. Confirmation that a conversion has started will be a timer in the top left corner on the converter screen and a red record icon. You can stop the recording at any time by pushing the REC button. You can restart later in the VHS tape by pushing the REC button. Restarting begins a new video file on your storage device.
- Conversion takes the same length of time as the video you are playing.
- To watch the recording you have made, press MODE and select playback (icon is in the upper left corner).
- You can take a photo from the video as it plays. Select MODE and the photo icon. Push the OK button to snap a picture. You cannot take a photo while the converter is in any other MODE.
- When done converting, take out the USB drive or SD card and transfer the files to your computer.
